No, because at that time, FPGAs were smaller and slower. 3 years is a long time in the computer industry; 3 years ago, I couldn't build a machine faster than an IBM SP2 out of AlphaLinux machines. Now I can. But the fact remains that I asked about chess, not what you thought about FPGAs. If you want to talk about FPGAs, perhaps comp.arch would be a good forum. -- greg
