Is it ever really worth upgrading anything? I like the way the new Fritz displays its opening book with statistics (instead of seperately). I like the look of its new interface. It seems even easier to paste a position or even a whole game through, 'cut & paste', with a couple of mouse clicks. I like its improved database handling; with the large database supplied with the program, you can search many game criteria, very easily. I like the improved chess board look and Habsberg pieces. The supplied opening book is larger, (& hopefully better tuned for the program - does anyone know for sure?), and the English talk stuff is on the same CD as the program. Its a different guy, who is probably even more obnoxious than Malcolm Pein. I would have preferred a cute girl voice (like Tina Long, maybe?), as the talk host, but I hardly listen to this feature anyway. The 3d board is improved (again, hardly use it), and there are a number of default Bach music selections, that work well too. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this program. Anyway, there's a lot to like about this 'new' Fritz. Is it worth the upgrade? Well, my father used to not want to buy anything new until about 5 years after it 1st version came out. But then, he enjoyed the Reel to Reel mono tape recorders a long time after everybody else traded them in for stereo cassettes:) Larry T.
