Anatoli said he had a recent post disappear. Now, I notice that a recent post by John Merlino has also apparently disappeared. It gave a list of the things that would be fixed in the new CM7000 patch. I just happened to make a copy of it, and a copy of same is given below. So, what's the problem? Is it technical glitch on the board, or is someone deleting stuff? --JRM [copy of prior John Merlino post...] Subject: Chessmaster 7000 Patch v1.0.6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ Post Followup (without quoting) ] [ Post Followup (with quoting) ] [ Computer Chess Resource Center ] [ CCC Home Page ] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted by John Merlino on December 17, 1999 at 20:33:01: The development team tells me that the patch for Chessmaster 7000 (version 1.0.6) has been approved and should appear on the website by Monday (possibly even today depending on how quickly the website guys get to it). They have given me the relevant portion of the ReadMe file that lists all of the fixes since the release. Note that version 1.0.3 was a patch that you only would have received if you had try to play on MPlayer. Version 1.0.3 was never available on the Chessmaster website. Also note the "Late Breaking Changes to the Documentation" section, most of which was in the release version, but items 10 through 12 are new. Enjoy! jm ===================================================================== *** What's New in Version 1.0.6? *** 1. Addressed a rare and random crash that was caused by pressing the "Next" or "Previous" buttons during a tutorial while audio was still playing. The Chessmaster team believes that the crash has been fixed. However, if you still are experiencing this crash, you can avoid it by waiting for the audio to stop playing before pressing the "Next" or "Previous" buttons. 2. Fixed a bug that would not allow a user-created personality to participate in a tournament. 3. Fixed a bug caused by entering an incorrect move in a Pandolfini Rating Exam Test, where the test could proceed as if the user had entered the correct move. 4. Fixed a bug that could cause "XX" to appear in the Think Lines dialog. This would occur if a pawn was promoted in a line, and the promoted piece moved later in the line. 5. Fixed a bug that would not display a check mark in the Curriculum Window after a user had completed the corresponding drill. 6. Fixed a problem with the font that caused certain chess specific characters to not copy/paste/print properly in other applications. 7. Fixed a bug where the current line in the Think Lines Window would not display if it was a Human's turn to move. 8. Fixed some bugs involving adjourning and resuming rated games. 9. Fixed a crash caused by attempting to add a Grandmaster personality to a rated tournament. 10. Keyboard input of moves now works in drills. 11. Corrected a few errors in tutorials. ===================================================================== *** What's New in Version 1.0.3? *** 1. The Chessmaster Live message protocol was changed. Players with patched versions (i.e. any version other than v1.0.0) of Chessmaster 7000 will not be able to receive online messages from players with non-patched versions, regardless of how they have connected to each other. 2. Now supports adjourning and resuming games in the Chessmaster Live Room for MPlayer sessions. 3. Fixed a bug where the color to move may be incorrect after loading a threaded CMG (Chessmaster saved game) file that was created with a previous version of Chessmaster (i.e. Chessmaster 6000 or earlier). 4. Fixed a crash that was caused by attempting to load the Opening Book Reference when it was already open. 5. Fixed a bug that could cause multiple file extensions when overwriting a previously existing file. 6. Fixed a crash caused by loading a threaded CMG file. ===================================================================== *** Late Breaking Changes to the Documentation *** The following clarifications to Chessmaster 7000 features and/or modifications of features took place after the manual and the online help file were completed: 1. The Chessmaster team highly recommend running Chessmaster 7000 with a Chessmaster 7000 CD in the drive at all times. If there is no Chessmaster CD in the drive, some features will be unavailable unless you had performed a custom installation and installed everything to your hard drive. 2. A maximum of 16 players can be connected on any single LAN or TCP/IP session in the CMLive Room. 3. The ability to save or load an ASCII Move List file has been removed. Use the PGN format for saving and loading text games as it is much more robust, making a simple ASCII Move List less useful. 4. If you have auto-annotated a game and want to save the game, you may use either the Chessmaster game format or PGN format. The Chessmaster game format will save all of the audio information and text formatting. The PGN format will save the annotation text, but no audio will be saved and the text will not be formatted. 5. The Switch Sides function, located in the Game Room, will rotate the board 180 degrees and also switch players (i.e. the player who was playing the White pieces will now be playing Black, and vice versa). Note that the White and Black players will NOT switch clocks and time controls. 6. Database Notes If the database is not visible in the Database Room after initial installation, resize the window. The database screens will appear. If you used the Typical or Compact installation option, the Chessmaster database (approximately 77 megabytes) was not copied to your hard drive. Therefore, any attempts to modify this database will cause an error because you cannot modify a file that is on a CD-ROM. If you plan to make any modifications to the Chessmaster database, you should re-install Chessmaster with the Custom option and select the "Database" option. Also, using the "Database Findings" tab in the Coach Windows requires access to the database. If the database is not present on the hard disk, you need to have Chessmaster CD #1 in your drive to use this feature. 7. Depending on the speed of your system, you may not see the introductory video or either of the in-game videos of Josh Waitzkin. Chessmaster makes a determination of your computer's speed to see if your machine can play the videos without audio or video distortion, and then plays the videos if your machine is capable. The videos run more efficiently in 16-bit color mode or higher. 8. When you do a typical install, the sound files for the Josh games and the tutorials remain on the CDs. Normally, the program will prompt you for the appropriate CD. If you find yourself playing a Josh game and there is no sound, the program most likely neglected to prompt you for the correct CD. Inserting the correct CD will restore the sound. This is a known problem that will be addressed in the next update. 9. To define your own sound effects set that will override the sounds played by the "Thematic Sounds" option, you can go to the "Sounds" option in the Windows "Control Panel." There you will find a "Chessmaster" group of sound effects to which you can assign any valid sound file that is in wave format (usually with a "WAV" extension). 10. Warning: If, upon receiving any software update from MPlayer, you attempt to play Chessmaster on MPlayer and Chessmaster comes up in a "non-MPlayer" mode, you should reboot your machine and try again. This is due to MPlayer updating certain software libraries that may have already been loaded into your computer's memory but not actually replaced when they were updated. 11. Warning: Using the Chess Coach during fast time controls (five seconds per move or two minutes per game, for example) can significantly reduce Chessmaster's performance. This is due to the Chess Coach's search of the database after every move to fill in the Advice and Database Findings tabs. The Chessmaster team recommend that you do not use the Chess Coach in blitz games or any time when program performance must be maximized. 12. Clarification: The documentation incorrectly states that there is an option to turn off the audio in tutorials. This option is not available in Chessmaster 7000. ===================================================================== -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Re: Chessmaster 7000 Patch v1.0.6 - Dave Gomboc 04:39:17 12/18/99 (0) Re: Chessmaster 7000 Patch v1.0.6 - Michael Cummings 22:57:27 12/17/99 (0) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ Post Followup (without quoting) ] [ Post Followup (with quoting) ] [ Computer Chess Resource Center ] [ CCC Home Page ] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
