Subject: Beginner advice needed

I am a beginner player and am looking for software.  I have CM5500, but want a
"lighter" program that will not need a CD, and can be run in a smaller window
(during long downloads, etc).  I have Winboard with GnuChess, but this beats me
too easily and I can not find any "level" features which will give me a fighting
chance.  I do not need a powerful engine, and I am not computer literate to
handle a more complicated set up than "out of the box" software.  Any ideas?
