The very old ones use a MC68000 processor and many programs won't run. Otherwise, they use a M68020 or greater processor or a version of the PPC chip. MacChess 2.5 and Sigma Chess 4.0.2 will run on a M68020 or later. Both are excellent. If it is a PPC, try Mac Chess 5.0.1. Sigma Chess is still good though interpreted. All are available. See Richard Fowell's links to Mac chess programs. http://dmoz.org/Games/Board_Games/Chess/Software/Macintosh/ There is also a version of crafty (16.3) on Bob's ftp machine for PowerPC Mac's Finally, if it is a 68000, I have a old copy of GNU chess running on a Mac Plus but it would take some effort to get it onto the net to send you.
