Go up one level in this thread

I am seeing the same reports on rgcc. The patch works fine for some people but
not for others. It is the same situation as with the original software. It works
fine for some people but not for others. Obviously the CM7000 development/patch
team is incapable of making it work right for everyone, and they have only a
limited ability to test & debug their stuff on a wide variety of systems. As
for the relative percentages, I don't know, but the proportion of people
reporting "not working" seems significant.

In response to some other posts above: Yes, the CM7000 CD was in the drive when
I tried to run the patch. Yes, I have a SHELL32.DLL file, in c:\windows\system
(as I said in my original post). I'm running Windows 95. And I have exactly the
same setup for CM6000, and its patch worked fine, so it is not something
inherently wrong with my system.

To top it all off, my browser (Internet Explorer 5) is now reporting errors on
the www.chessmaster.com web site, not fatal ones, but certain items thereon
aren't properly defined or linked in html code. Some people may not see these
error reports if they have their browser set to ignore them. My browser is set
to report all such errors, but then goes ahead and displays the web page as best
as possible. Thus unfortunately I get the overall impression that
Chessmaster/TLC is now being run by people who just don't know what they're
doing technical-wise. I'm honestly starting to feel sorry for them, but it
looks like they just don't have what it takes.

I'm not too disappointed overall as the recent development of Fritz 6, Fritz 6
Light, and Rebel-Tiger is keeping the cauldron stirred in proper fashion.
Chessmaster is just not in the same avant-garde league anymore, although I'll
continue to use CM6000, which remains a fine program.
