You might try customizing it...it's incredibly customizable. I'm that fond of the defaults either. Mine colors are: Light Squares: Hue 19, Sat 179, Lum 155, Red 232, Green 162, blue 98 Dark Squares 27, 216, 93, 188, 130, 10 White Pieces 40, 240, 216, 255, 255, 140 Black Pieces A dark grey. Also, set I think that if you go to your control panel and turn on font smoothing, the pieces will be drawn more smoothly. Try changing the fonts to something you like, Arial works well on mine.
