THE KNIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS 'Twas the knight before Christmas, when all through the house No computer was stirring, not even a "mouse". The chessmen were set on the chessboard with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. Each pawn was nestled all snug on its square, While visions of promotion danced in the air. The queen with her crown, and the king with his cap, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap, When there in the chess room there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the chess room I flew like a bee, Tore open the doors, the fuss to see, When what did my wondering eyes gaze upon?: Chess on the computer! - - the royal game on silicon! With a little old "driver", so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than MHz his tactics they came. And he whistled, and shouted, and called out these names: "Now, Rebel! Now, Hiarcs! Now, Crafty, and Junior! On, Comet! On, Ferret! On, Nimzo, and Shredder! A brilliancy now, a stunning knight sac! And with that we have a winning attack!" His eyes - - how they twinkled, his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! With knight forks, and pawn traps, and skewers, and pins, He quickly collected a good dozen wins. He then gave his toy sack a powerful lift, And he left all that software as a Christmas gift! He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, "MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, and to all a GOOD KNIGHT !!!"
