As in a decade so in a century....so in a millenium (but 1960,1970,1980,1990
and 2000); we would not say that 1970 was part of the "sixties" would we? So
even though we think the millenium begins in 2001 it is not aesthetic to call
year 2000 part of the 20th century. The first century year 1 occured at the
supposed birth of Christ and was not zero however. By convention, we ignore this
fact.....

You know, that is probably why Stanley Kubrick chose the title "2001: A Space
Odyssey" But then, he ignored convention.
