Inspired by Dann Corbit, I searched the Web for software for creating/solving chess problems (as opposed to playing chess) and created an index for them at: http://dmoz.org/Games/Board_Games/C/Chess/Software/Chess_Problem_Software/ If anyone knows of other programs that should be listed here, please reply. Note that many regular chess programs have a "mate-solving"mode (e.g. - MacChess 4.0 and Sigma Chess 4.02 Lite on the Mac) for solving direct mate problems - unless a general chess-playing program has more support than that for problems, I'm not looking to list it here.
