I didn't let play many games, but I've tested some Comet versions in 40 test positions on PII-333 or K6-2/400 (which are nearly equal fast for chess prog's I think). The version B02 has a better performance in this test than B11. Comet B11 on K6-2/400 (10 MB hash) was tactically a little faster than B02 on PII-333 (40 MB Hash), but B02 was a better in positional and endgame tests. I would say, Comet is about 50 Elo behind the top. This are the test ratings (but don't trust them!): Comet B02 2519 (PII-333 40 MB) Comet A75 2509 (PII-333 51 MB DOS) Comet B11 2460 (K6-2/400 10 MB) Comet B09 2457 (PII-333 25 MB) Of course, this is not a good comparison because of the different hash sizes and processors, but I have no other results at hand by now. Btw., amongst the recent Crafty versions up to 17.04, the version 16.6 performs best in this test (2614 on PII-333 with 32 MB Hash). Tactically best is Little Goliath 2000a (2620). The lead still has Fritz 5.16 with 2633 (due to bigger hash tables which were possible with Win 3.11), but I do not have some of the newest profi programs, and only a few amateurs. Regards, M.Scheidl
