Yes there is. White wins more games than Black. Also playing White gives the
option to select the type of opening to start off with. So that itself is a
major advantage. If you have a chess database, you can search for the rate of
wins, and you will find that White wins more than Black. Something like 52% wins
come from White and 48% is the best Black can get.
