Thanks for the replies, Pete and Frank. I got the book now.

One other thing. When I played an engine-engine game (comet vs gnu), the game
ended with a "black mates" note in Winboard's display -- even though no mate had
occurred. I think I've noticed this before with earlier versions of Comet. Is
this some sort of bug?
