I knew about this a long time ago -- increased red hues on the screen cause humans to play weaker. I learned this from Ron Maddox -- he used to have Fritz2 on his computer with the dark squares colored bright red. After ten minutes of play on his machine, the eyestrain would cause me to have blinding headaches and I'd start hanging pieces. Of course, you'll remember the plain white walls we had in the Hagerstown offices feom the couple of times you were there. The upside of using red for the dark squares came when you wanted to deeply analyze a position -- you could stare at Ron's monitor for a few minutes, look away at the white wall, and still clearly see the position. -- Steve The Chess Kamikaze Home Page: http://www.geocities.com/ludekdudek/ The Chess Kamikaze Club: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/chesskamikazes
