Subject: Null move R=3 is good

Author: David Blackman

Like most chess programmers, i've been experimenting with null move ever since i
got a basic alpha-beta search working. It seemed to help a little in most
mid-game positions. Often it would allow searching a ply or so deeper. Turns out
i wasn't doing it right. If you do it right it's much, much better than that.
More hints after my program wins something major :-)

(I still have to put back in all the stuff i ripped out to get a simple platform
for experimentation. Then i have to do some work on the static eval, which has
always been weak. But already it's looking good ... )
