It isn't quite the same thing you know, but being a CC enthusiast, I naturally
want to see the games take place. The real changes took place when the computers
came into a position to win tournaments. That's when they were more truly
stonewalled. I remember a huge, 11 round, 30 minute game open in France at
Aubervilliers, and there was always an interesting roster of computer players
participating. I haven't heard about any computer participation since a version
of Genius tied for 2nd-3rd though. I can understand as well, and it is
complicated. Would you want to participate in a tournament (active chess) with
IMs, GMs, and tons of players, and have the results read like this:
1) Fritz 9.99 10.5/11
2-4) Hiarcs 10.0 10/11
2-4) Rebel Timewarp 10/11
2-4) Chess Weasel 10/11
5-9) CM 9300 9.5/11
5-9) Nimzo 9.64 9.5/11
5-9) Deeper Junior 9.5/11
5-9) Crafty 23.412 9.5/11
5-9) GM Short 9.5/11
Etc...
I sympathize, even if the prizes are given only to the human players. The
problem will only worsen apart from specially organized events, designed to
include cybernetic opponents.
