Hello group, Intel has announced the release of a 64 bit CPU and Windows 2000 is written to support both 32 bitties and 64 bitties. Here is one of the many articles on the Internet discussing the matter; http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/news1/ns-396.html IMHO: if I was a computer chess programmer I would certainly be writing code to take advantage of this step-up in power and speed. I believe this is similiar to the jump from 16 bitties to 32 bitties and now of course 64 bitties. For example if Crafty coding was re-written in 64 bitties it should be able to easily rise to the top of the SSDF list. Strange thing though, the SSDF does not test Crafty. Perhaps it is due to lack of strength, I do not know ?! What does the group think will be the speed increase if a chess software program is rewritten in 64 bitties with a 64 bitties O/S and 64 bitties CPU and architecture ?? Thank you in advance for your responses. Bango
