The 1st Internet Chess Club's Computer Chess Tournament is shaping up to be a really cool event. As far as I know, this will be the first event of its type and I predict this type of tournament will become more popular than the traditional computer chess tournaments. Already there are about 17 entries with hopefully more to come. Pre tournament favourites: Ferret - second in the 1999 World Computer Chess Championships. A very tough program, but rumour has it that Bruce hasn't done any work on it for quite some time. Perhaps the others are catching up? Nimzo - so far the only commercial program entered, are the others running scared? Crafty - always strong, and who knows what sort of monster hardware Bob will be turning up with! I think I read that Rebel won't be playing, why not Ed? I'm hopeful that some other strong programs such as Junior, RebelTiger, Shredder, Zarkov, and Comet will play. What say their authors? The tournament will be held on the following dates: Rd 1, Sat Jan 29, noon - Rd 2, Sat Jan 29, 3:30PM Rd 3, Sun Jan 30, noon - Rd 4, Sun Jan 30, 3:30PM Rd 5, Sat Feb 5, noon - Rd 6, Sat Feb 5, 3:30PM Rd 7, Sun Feb 6, noon - Rd 8, Sun Feb 6, 3:30PM For more information, log on to ICC and type 'help cct' or 'finger cct-1'. cheers, Peter
