Both Centaur and Mirage are excellent chess programs, with unique playing
styles. VERY human-like, not intended to play other chess programs, but humans,
which they do with much success. Centaur has a choice of language (Russian or
English), and a nice, clear board. It is a Windows app, and very strong against
any human opponent. Gets up to ply 9 lightning fast, does lots of pruning and
does not resemble ANY other program. Centaur is not freeware. The same applies
to Mirage which is freeware and can be downloaded from either of my pages:
www.computerschach.de/freeware or www.cent.co.yu/chess. However, Mirage is a
DOS program. Mirage was officially rated at 2115 in Russia in 1997, on a P 133.
This should indicate a USA master strength on a PII-300.

I'd be most interested in Fernando's impressions of both, primarily Centaur.
