Obviously the long thinking of sherbakov proved that he played Bg5 on purpose hoping for the bishop to get shut in. He must have had that idea at the moment of play, as normally you play e4 there without thinking. Now sherbakov thought very long and finally played the inferior Bg5 line. So he took risk there. He was very lucky that rebel played e5 and didn't go for f5.
