Some good observations.  I have been working on
adaptability with my program.  Slow and hard work.
It is not very strong, but I agree with a lot of
what you say.

Consider this.  Faster machines with deeper ply may
solve a lot of positional issues.  Position is only
as strong as the tactics it eventually generates.  IMHO.  :)

There are still holes in the programs, but they are harder
to find (but once found, pay off).  Programs score higher and
higher with each new hardware release, putting more pressure
on everyone to find holes in 40/2 competition.  One big tool
a person uses today to beat the beast is to learn from the mistakes
the computer made in previous games and plan an imporvement that
will lead to a win.  Match play is the key to beating programs today.
IMHO.  :)
