Hi,
You may think extensions while searching a game tree - OK?
So, normally you search to a fixed depth, say 5 plies (standard
for my program...), but some branches could or should be searched
deeper because they are "interesting" - e.g. when capture or check
happens, you should also perform "quiescence seach" at the leaves
to get a stable position - it means - no direct threats are present
( - you are not in the middle of the wild sequence of capturing ...),
You could use any other extensions of your own ( e.g. a paw gets to
the 7th rank ...) but be careful of exponential explosion...
Well, this was only a little resume and I don't know if it answers
your question at all...
Have a nice day. John P.
