Hogwash.  Then why didn't he or his agent say "sure, but we want a prize fund
of 1 million dollars, winner take all."  Or some such requirement.  Why would
he say "not interested"?  Without even raising the issue of cash?

Doesn't sound (to me) the way you want to make it sound.  I don't think money
was the issue.  It would be _easy_ to raise such a prize fund.  _Anybody_
would be willing to put up money after seeing the publicity IBM got during
the last match.  IE someone like Intel would jump all over that.  Or a major
micro manufacturer...

But you have to have a committed match first...
