Though it's 100% speculation, I would put it this way: After the last match, Kasparov is indeed afraid to play DB again, if it's under the same conditions. He would probably lose. However, he is very confident (and rightly so) that he can beat the machine if he has the chance to study its play before the match. So, if Hsu wants to play, he must have a few dozen games against GM's to show; or, better yet, make a commercial chip that one can buy to train against. Or at least offer Kasparov 30 games. The first 20 and their result are kept secret. The last 10 are the match. See how fast Kasparov will agree to play... And if I were Kasparov, I would ask for nothing less. It's perfectly reasonable. Moreover, his statements after the loss were indeed inqualifiable, but IBM's behaviour in general was almost as bad. Once bitten twice shy... Alberto
