Pete,

I tried posting this last night, but CCC was down. I am still cracking up over
your statement at the bottom.

Kasparov has defended his title 5 times since winning it in 1985 (an average of
once every 2 years from 1986 to 1995). The real problem is that he has not
defended it since 1995 (and so it is starting to get a little obsolete or
fictitous as you put it).

Four and a third years is a long time in the chess world and people are starting
to get a little antsy about it. Especially with farces such as the FIDE
championships going on (and yes, although I respect Khalifman for winning this
last match, I still do not consider it world chess championship calibre play;
nor did I consider the previous Karpov/Anand match to be of world chess
championship duration).

Man! That is the funniest thing I have read in a long time. I'm still chuckling
over it. Gotta remember that line the next time KarinsMom says something from
way out in left field.
