Go up one level in this thread

Just the front screen listing the messages is big. It takes a long time to download for anyone on a normal modem, and a long time to browse through to find the 10 or so posts you actually have time to read. Maybe it's time to split the group into multiple sub-groups. One for technical stuff. One for match and tournament reports only. One for discussion of matches and tournaments. One for discussion of desireable non-engine features, comparisons, and consumer reports. One for important announcements, that only moderators and ICDChess staff can post to. One for moderation discussion (i won't even look at that, except around election time). One for miscellaneous off-topic stuff (i won't read that). With seperate moderators for each one, the work-load for each moderator would hopefully drop a little, and the chance of the moderators actually knowing what was going on in their area would increase. That might actually result in someone nominating for the job. Although, given the undeserved public pasting Dann has taken lately, they'd still have to be masochists. Additional customiseable filters might be a useful alternative or supplement. Something similar to netnews kill-files would be nice, with the ability to filter out by subject, by thread, and by author.
