The problem was not that you responded it was the way in which you responded.
Here is the precise notice that I sent to you when suspension was required,
mailed 11/29/99 at 5:29 PM:

"Odell,

We have found it necessary to suspend your account for a period of one month.
Despite repeated warnings, you have continued to flaunt the charter of CCC by
the use of abusive language in your postings.

Normally, you are an interesting poster with intelligent questions and an asset
to the CCC community. However, of late, you seem to have developed a strange
penchant for the use of salty language. While it is only reasonable to defend
ourselves when attacked or provoked, in any civilized setting, there are
standards that must be adhered to. For instance, if someone calls me a
"blooming idiot", it is not acceptable for me to pull out a knife and stab him.
In a similar vein, it is not acceptable to respond to something you feel is
unacceptable in a manner that violates the charter of the Computer Chess Club.
In addition, several of your recent posts appear on the surface to be aimed at
instigation rather than discussion.

After the stated period of one month, I am quite sure that you will come to your
senses and once again become the interesting contributor to CCC that we have
come to know and love.

- Dann Corbit, CCC moderator."

Therefore, you are fully aware that you were not suspended for defending
yourself but for the manner in which the defense was presented.

You would be astonished to have seen the way that Bruce went to bat for you.

Why are you still here then?
