I do think a sponsor could get a good deal of publicity with the first tournament if Kasparov help publicize it. With Garry and Hsu both making the first tournament very public and announcing that the previous DB vs GK match was not a normal Championship test of chess strength, I think people would be interested. Gary would have to help a great deal to make the tournament a success though. It would be to his advantage to do this anyway to hype up everyone for his encounter with DB. The key again I think would be to make sure it is very public that GK vs DB is dependant on the results of this strong GM match with DB. I have no way around the second reason that you gave but to say that if DB wins the first GM tournament even if it looses the GK vs DB he will be in good shape for a rematch.
