The game is hard for computers, but I thought that throughout the game Junior
had a better understanding of the position. It showed equality in the opening,
built a tiny advantage after 20.b6 (maximum was 0.23), which disappeared around
move 35, after which it showed mostly draw scores.
I was not impressed by Century in this game. It locked the position to its
disadvantage, showed plus scores while shuffling pieces on the locked queenside,
and started showing +1 scores when it sniffed capturing the b7 pawn, though the
position is a foregone draw. It looked like a typical human vs. computer game,
except that the "human" here was a computer too.
Some comments overheard during the game:
GM Michael Oratovski, on 20.b6 : Only a computer would play such a move.
GM Lev Psakhis, after 22... Bf5 : Black has a big advantage, but he doesn't
believe it's winnable.
GM Lev Psakhis, after 32. Kh2 : Exchanging on g3 was a mistake. Black should
have put a knight on h4, though he's not sure how to continue from there. I
asked him if all rooks are exchanged, does white lose because he can't protect
e3 ? He said not necessarily, as white has counterchances in a bishop sac on c6.
IM Sofie Polgar, after 33. Raa1 : Black's position is not as good as a few moves
ago.
It was Almog Burstein who pulled Rebel's power cord. He's a former league
committee chairman and the one that banned Junior from the league two years ago.
In comparison to what he did to Junior, his damage to Rebel is minimal.
