Of course if you use the 4 piece tablebases, a program can easily see the win when it ditches a piece. But Enrique said he was not using tablebases during this match, so to see a mate in 15 in the search the program would have to search and extend 29-30 plies, and somehow miss the mate in 8 (15-16 plies) at the same time.
