I have a very distinct recollection of Kasparov saying that he would be willing
to play in Frankfurt if the games against the computer would all be on the same
day. His argument - which I accept - is that is terribly difficult to switch
from anti-human to anti-computer mode. If he now says he will not play at all,
I can chalk it up to the challenges the strongest player in world does not feel
strong enough to play: Shirov, Anand, Deep Blue (Hsu?). The story continues, and
the Beast of Baku is gradually losing, oh no, not status!, perish the thought:
he will probably wipe the floor with his opponents in Wijk, but creditibility as
a person concerned for the future of Chess.
