This is a superb win for Crafty, which augurs well for the World Championship in London. Having said that, Crafty is probably optimised for Blitz, given the way Bob tells us he uses it on ICC! If these results are roughly representative of the relative strength of these programs, then there are an awful lot of very strong programs out there! I wonder how they compare with the commercials? Probably not far behind (but not so fully featured, and not so well dubugged). I have downloaded Bringer, because it is quick and easy to download and run under NT. I started with V 1.5, then upgraded to 1.6 (which is a "beta" version) because 1.5 didn't recognise draw by repetition. I have to say that, while it might just be an impression, V 1.5 seemed to be stronger to me - at 10s per move, it wrestled down the other programs I played it against far more convincingly than V 1.6. This could be coincidence that it obtained positions that it liked in V 1.5, it could be that the new version is more tuned to tournament time settings, or it could be that it really has worsened a little.
