It is not real easy yet.  But here are the things to play with:

1.  "eval" command.  Reduce the 'weights'.  IE try zero, which means that
things won't count at all.  Or even go negative as someone has suggested
before so that things are actually avoided (ie set the passed pawn weight
to -50 and it will actually actively avoid creating a passed pawn.)

2.  "extension" command can be used to disable things like in-check extensions,
one-reply extensions, recapture extensions, etc.  Setting them all to zero will
weaken it tactically.

3.  After the above, you are left with a program without a lot of positional
sense, and without the ability to follow deep tactics.  It will still be very
dangerous to an 1800 player.  The next step is to give time odds.  You can
use the "st" command to reduce the time per move, and you can use "ponder=off"
to disable thinking on your time...
