I'd highly recommend Phalanx, I use version XXI not the new XXII, but here's 2
lines that I recently added to my winboard.ini file:

\"Phalanx -e50 -r600\" /fd=c:\\Phalanx
\"Phalanx -e75 -r500\" /fd=c:\\Phalanx

the higher that -e number is (up to 100) the wimpier phalanx will play, and
phalanx is still playing respectable games and not making out and out blunders
at -e50.

but we're not talking about slowing hardware speeds at all.

Here's what my Phalanx line says for just playing normal:

\"Phalanx -t8960 -r900\" /fd=c:\\Phalanx

Here's a list of Phalanx command line posibilities:

Phalanx XXI
Usage:    phalanx [options] [<moves> <minutes> [<increment in seconds>]]
          phalanx [options] [<seconds per move>]
          phalanx bench
          phalanx bcreate [options]
Options:  -t <transposition table size in kilobytes>
          -f <fixed search time in seconds>
          -x <+/->  xboard mode on/off        default: on
          -p <+/->  permanent brain on/off    default: off
          -s <+/->  show thinking on/off      default: off
          -o <+/-> polling input default: on
          -b <+/-> opening book default: on
          -r <resign value in centipawns>     default: 0 (no resigning)
          -e <easy level 0...100>             default: 0 (best play)
          -l <+/->  learning on/off           default: off
          -v        print version and exit
          -P <primary book directory>
          -S <secondary book directory>
