Subject: Crusoe Processor is HOT STUFF

Dear Computer Chess Club members,

To find out more about the new Crusoe (Tm) brand of processors go to.

http://www.transmeta.com/about

The "PC" version TM 5400 runs at 700Mhz at a cool 48 degrees Centigrade and
consumes 1 watt of power. The 400 Kbyte internal cache speeds things up. In
addition the "code-morphing software" allows various programs for different
operating systems to run in these computers. The microprocessor draws only 20
mw in the deep sleep mode and you never have to shut your computer down so that
you will have "instant boot time". If you are reading a web page the power
consumption goes to much less than one watt.

The system uses 128 bit Linux code in the code morphing software.

The portable computers that will go on sale June/July 2000 will retail for $500
to $1000 US. Just think, you can play REXCHESS 2.3 and ChessTiger 12.x on the
same machine. You can take it anywhere and you don't have to turn it off. It
will really add a new dimension to "portability". So, instead of reading a book
in the bathroom..........
