Its easiest to use the native version provided on the Chessbase website, www.chessbase.com. You just put that version into your engines file, and it works straight away without any need for the winboard adapter. If you want to use the latest version from Bob's ftp site, though, you will need the Chessbase winboard adapter. You download that from their site, put it in your engines folder, and rename it Crafty17.?.eng. You then create a folder with the same name (Crafty17.?) and put the winboard engine from Bob's site in the folder. You could put Crafty's book in as well. However, using the winboard adapter affects the performance of Crafty (and any winboard engines) particularly in Blitz games, so its easier to just get the latest download from chessbase... Hope this actually works.....
