Subject: Testing an engine's speed?

What are the preferred methods of testing an engine's speed? Are there some
common positions that you all use? As far as I can figure, there are only two
factors that can be tested: nodes per second (general test) and "accuracy"
(testing the algorithm for its correctness with regards to certain complicated
positions).

While I'm interested in both of these, I'm MORE interested in the positions that
you use for determining nodes per second (and, perhaps, the pruning techniques
that are used to speed up the depth search).

Any help will be useful to this curious bystander....
