Go up one level in this thread

Personally, I have known about UBB for quite some time. I agree that the
presentation is far better and very professional looking, but as it is, I'm not
convinced it is a better alternative to what we have here. Ignore the looks for
a minute and loot at how the posts are organized. Once a thread is created, all
posts in it are organized chronologically, independently of whose post is being
responded to. This would very quickly become a mess here. Just look at one of
the larger threads here. In it there are many responses, many in turn giving way
to sub-threads of their own. If you take a thread such as the one on Hsu's open
letter, you will see the discussion break up into a number of smaller threads.
One on Hsu himself, another on the validity of DB's victory over Kasparov,
another on Kasparov's position, another on the end of the DB-in-a-PC dream,
another on DB itself and how strong it really was, etc... Other subthreads
almost always follow. If you put this whole thread in a linear chronological
order, it would be quite impossible to understand who was talking to who and
about what. As such, I prefer the threaded tree layout here, even if it isn't as
attractive looking.
