It can only be a PC program, only because Kasparov will refuse to play a supercomputer. He has thrown in the towel on the ultimate man vs. machine contest. I don't think anyone doubts now that a machine *can* be built that will defeat any human player, so why bother anyway? IMO he blew his last chance to get paid a lot of money to face a machine. The remaining challenge will be for PC programs, and that will happen by a slow creep and not a challenge match, because Kasparov works with these programs all the time, and he will know as soon as anyone when they are getting to his level. When he knows they are capable of beating him he won't play a match, so it will just sort of become acknowledged at some point that computers are too strong for humans.
