There is a dearth of chess programs for the palmpilot compared to half a hundred for the PC. Currently, the best downloadable is Scott Ludwig's PocketChess 1.1 available at http://www.eskimo.com/~scottlu/pilot/index.html. The adv of playing chess on a palmpilot include: 1) You don't need to spend time in front of the PC and neglect your family -- you can sit with them, engage them in conversation, etc, and yet hold the stuff in your palm. 2) You get to kill long boring journeys with commuting (provided you are not the driver of course). 3) It saves $ (consumes 2 AAA batteries instead of the power which your PC comsumes). 4) Steve Ludwig'w program proves that such a stuff can play a strong game of chess and is extremely stable...level 5 (out of 8) gives me a good challenge. 5) It's cool. There is a recent thread on what is the next deep blue. In 3 to 4 years, the answer could be palmblue if development of chess softwares for the palm is not neglected. At least for the moment, I dream of the day where I can download crafty for the palm...and play chess realtime with someone on the internet using a wireless palm. So..a request to programmers out there ...if can, provide a version of your program for the palm...
