I'm not even sure what to say. I never said your post was off-topic, and though
my post was not on computerchess per se, it was a reply to Enrique's post. What
should you do with such an answer? Nothing I would think. It was merely a
comment on the use of smileys while criticizing someone/something in a
non-joking/friendly manner. I criticize as well, but wouldn't think to follow it
up with a smiley unless the 'criticism' was only a joke (such as my comment on
the delay of the Fritz 6a patch). It is difficult to know what the real position
of a poster is at times because we cannot see the writer's face or hear their
voice, and smileys and other figures help clarify it. If one misuses them, then
it becomes very confusing indeed. For example, I came down hard on de Gorter in
a post on his 'review' a while ago, but would never have dreamt to follow it up
with a smiley.
