From being on rec.games.chess.computer for a while, it looks to me like someone has to be a moderator. I think anyone who enjoys this forum has a duty to accept nomination if they possibly can, so that the voters will have the biggest possible choice, and hopefully someone good will be elected. I'm not sure if i would be a good moderator. I think some people will like my moderation philosophy, but when it gets down to actually doing the job, my judgment of each situation might not be up to it.
