Hello Shep,
I agree with you. In my case I got off to a bad start right from the beginning.
When I put the CD in the drive I expected it to come up with some kind of
loading software to assist in installation. Instead it started my AOL software
for me! Now that I have had it for a day, and have figured out most of my
problems myself, it's not so bad. I saw ChessTiger play on ICC/FICS and it
seemed to work fine. When I tried to use it on ICC I had multiple problems. I
finally realized that I needed to creat my own server file for letting Tiger
play on the internet. Another problem is I expected the program to
automatically save the games played like Chessbase programs do. I guess the
only way to save games is manually. This means when playing auto232 you have
nothing to show for your results in the end. The sounds also seem to interfere
with the auto232 operation and turning them off makes the operation smoother.
The sounds are also the most obnoxious sounds ever to eminate from my speakers.
I much prefer a simple "click" when making a move over the "Boinng" noise. The
book problem is minor and can be dealt with. I dislike the internet console
because you have to click the options like -- unrated/rated-- time control
seeking-- each time you seek. A little memory would go a long way here. Also
at first it played Junior and Junior 6 was killing it so bad I thought that it
must be the other program and not Chess-Tiger playing. Chess Tiger had 1 win
and 4 draws in the first 11 games. This has turned around now and it is playing
Junior 6.0 pretty even at blitz. Just watching it play I don't know what to say
about it's style. I'm not sure what the "anti human" function does to it when
playing computers or if off when playing humans. At this point I can say I am
not unhappy anymore but in my opinion it needs some work. I guess for a first
time marriage between Chess Tiger and ChessPartner it's not too bad. The
onboard manual is poor. But I'm smiling now!
Oh, one more thing. I dislike the fact it is very easy to cheat on the internet
with this thing.
