I always leave mine on and only turn off the monitor. (It's working on an opening book for my mancala program.) I was also a member of GIMPS (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search) for several years. Never had a problem with leaving it on for 24 hrs/day, except I have to re-boot about once a week when things lock up!
