A computer uses about the same power as two lightbulbs. Turn on the heater for
5 minutes and you have used what a computer does in a day. Iron the shirts,
cook something on a burner, run the dryer -- these pull a ton of juice.
Computers pull very little.

Suppose you have a 200 watt power supply -- that's 2 100 watt lightbulbs. Most
of the time, it won't be pulling anything near its capacity, but it is not 100%
efficient converting either. At any rate, the power for a computer is small.

Your monitor is probably the bulk of your computer's power consumption, and even
that is not very large.

If you want to save a ton of electricity, turn your thermostat down 5 degrees
(unless you live in the tropics -- in which case you should probably turn the
air-conditioner thermostat up 5 degrees.)

If you want to conserve - do it where it matters most. Otherwise, we're like
the guy who orders a 13 course meal and 'a diet soda.'
