I feel the same, so I am now just trying to see things through observers eyes, and will soon buy what I see is the best. It's a very hard thing. Every program is unique-in knowledge too. But I think there can be some mathemtical formula E.G. if a program never gets less than 50% in a match against any other program, then that is saying something quite good! But you have to be prepared to overlook up to 50%.Then hopes might be able to reach reality. I was also thinking that each true generation can be measured as at least a difference of 100 elo, 50 coming from program and 50 from cpu. If so, I think of genius3 on 100 mhz. Then came hiarcs6 on 200 mhz. and now, maybe fritz6 on 400+ mhz. Confidently 3 generations-each generation superior to previous in every aspect. Those like me-you might agree I've done some of the worrying for them-it might put their mind at rest-by listening to me.You can change the actual details if you like. It might suit your needs better. I just gave examples. Stuart Taylor
