I'm not sure that the principal has much jurisdiction off of school grounds, but I would likely try to bring the two to a peaceful solution. Perhaps a polite email to the alleged offender. Personally, I don't see the big deal. If it's offensive to some, I would be inclined to politely ask the offender to lay off of the profanities.
