Subject: book or no book....... that is the question ??

hi guys,
         i was wondering that which program actually plays good even without any
opening book. in my personal test i have seen TCB beat crafty in several games
(not more) without any form of opening book, and crafty with 12mb opening book.
on the other hand in this position lg2000v2 plays very bad games without an
opening book. looses 90% of the games against crafty (tested on almost 200
games). is there any stats about it?
what does the proggramers think?
