Not by much, actually -- up to iteration depths of 12-13 plies, the effective branching factor of state-of-the-art microcomputer chess programs mostly lies between 2 and 2.5. With according increases in hash-table size, I am quite convinced that this is sustainable for some iterations to come. :-) =Ernst=
