I heard the interviews also, and it seems that Fischer does appear to be "out there." I don't blame anyone for what Fischer says, save Fischer himself. His ego was an integral part of his becoming a World Champion, along with his genius at the board--and it seems that this same ego contributed to his fall from grace. Could it have been fear of losing to Karpov that kept him from playing competitive chess again? It has been argued that Spassky was never the chess player of all of the prior Soviet Champions.
